Steps to clean a microwave

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Before you begin, gather all the necessary supplies:
– A microwave-safe bowl
– White vinegar or lemon
– Dish soap
– Water
– Microfiber cloth or sponge
– Toothpick or small brush
– Optional: Baking soda

Step 2: Prepare the Cleaning Solution

Mix equal parts of water and white vinegar or squeeze the juice of one lemon into the microwave-safe bowl. Alternatively, you can use a few tablespoons of dish soap diluted in water. The acidic properties of vinegar or lemon help break down grease and stains, while dish soap helps loosen food particles.

Step 3: Microwave the Cleaning Solution

Place the bowl with the cleaning solution in the microwave and heat it on high for 3-5 minutes, or until the solution boils and creates steam. The steam will soften any dried-on food and grease, making them easier to wipe away.

Step 4: Let It Sit

After heating, leave the bowl inside the microwave for a few more minutes to allow the steam to continue loosening the grime. This step helps in lifting stubborn stains and odours.

Step 5: Wipe Down the Interior

Carefully remove the hot bowl using oven mitts or a towel to avoid burns. Then, using a microfibre cloth or sponge, wipe down the interior of the microwave. The softened dirt and grease should come off easily. Pay extra attention to the ceiling, walls, and door where food splatters often accumulate.

Step 6: Clean the Turntable and Accessories

Remove the turntable and any other removable accessories from the microwave. Wash them with warm, soapy water, and scrub off any stubborn stains with a sponge or brush. Rinse thoroughly and dry before placing them back into the microwave.

Step 7: Tackle Tough Stains

For stubborn stains that didn’t come off with the steam cleaning, make a paste using baking soda and water. Apply the paste to the stains and let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing gently with a toothpick or small brush. Wipe away the paste with a damp cloth.

Step 8: Wipe Down the Exterior

Don’t forget to clean the exterior of the microwave. Use a damp cloth or sponge with a mild detergent to wipe down the door, control panel, and exterior surfaces. Dry thoroughly with a clean cloth.

Step 9: Final Touches

Once you’ve cleaned both the interior and exterior of the microwave, give it a final wipe with a dry cloth to remove any moisture or streaks. Plug the microwave back in and admire your handiwork!
