Window cleaning and building maintenance in Greenwich

Four halls of residence within a few streets of the Cutty Sark, cleaned inside and out between 2017 and 2020, are the core of SeeForth's Greenwich work: rope access from the roof on the taller block, reach and wash on the rest, cladding panels, carpets and a window sill on the way. This page shows the buildings and what each one needed.

Greenwich buildings we have looked after

All halls of residence, all within a few minutes' walk of each other, all described without naming the operator.

Norman Road, SE10

Tall hall, hand tools and rope access twice a year

The tallest of the four. External glazing cleaned by hand tools where the ground allowed and by rope access from the roof for the rest, twice a year from March 2018 to August 2020, six visits in all. A window sill outside one flat was repaired in December 2020 on the same call.

King William Walk, SE10

Hall by the Cutty Sark, annual reach and wash

Reach and wash with purified water across every elevation, in November 2017, May 2018, February 2019 and August 2019, booked with the accommodation team around the changeover.

Welland Street, SE10

Hall with high level external and internal cleaning

High level reach and wash outside and internal window cleaning inside in April 2018 and August 2019, after a first external clean in November 2017. The carpets and lino were cleaned in May 2019 for the same building.

Lovibond Lane, SE10

Hall with cladding panels

External glazing in May 2018 and August 2019, with the heavily soiled cladding panels cleaned by reach and wash with purified water in September 2018 and again in August 2019, leaving the panels free of water marks.

What we do in Greenwich

Window cleaning

Reach and wash from the ground to about five storeys, rope access from the roof above that, hand tools inside. See high rise window cleaning.

Cladding and render cleaning

Purified water on cladding panels, soft washing on render, never a pressure washer on render. See cladding and render cleaning.

Gutters and rainwater goods

Cleared at any height by rope access, MEWP or high-reach vacuum, with photographs. See rainwater clearance.

Eyebolt testing

Roof anchors inspected, load tested and certificated before the rope access team uses them. See eyebolt testing.

Small repairs

Window sills, seals and fittings put right while we are on the building, as at Norman Road. See roof repairs.

Fire risk assessments

Halls of residence and blocks of flats assessed to BS 9792:2025 by IFSM registered Level 6 assessors, report within 48 hours. See fire risk assessments.

How we work in Greenwich

  • Halls on a calendar. The big cleans went into the summer changeover and the quieter months, agreed with the accommodation team in advance.
  • The right access for each block. Rope access from tested anchors on the tall block, reach and wash from the ground on the low ones. No scaffold on any of the four.
  • Residents told first. Notices go out before any term-time visit, and the site team is told each morning which elevations are being cleaned.
  • Everything in one visit. Glazing, panels, carpets and a window sill were dealt with by the same firm on the same programme.
  • Reports after every visit. Photographs of each elevation and a note of anything that needs a different treatment.

Neighbourhoods we cover

Greenwich town centre and the riverside. Deptford and New Cross. Blackheath and Westcombe Park. Charlton and Woolwich. Lewisham and Brockley. For the Isle of Dogs across the river see Canary Wharf and Docklands; for the rest of the capital see London; for halls and student towers as a sector see student accommodation.

How to book

  1. Send the address and a photo of the building, and say whether it is a one-off or a programme.
  2. We look at the building. A hall, a tower or anything with cladding gets a site visit first.
  3. Fixed quote, with the access method, the dates and what the site team needs to do.
  4. The work, with RAMS in advance and a report at the end.

Common questions

Can you clean a hall of residence in Greenwich without scaffold?

Yes. The tall block on Norman Road was cleaned by hand tools and rope access from the roof, twice a year for three years. The lower halls were cleaned by reach and wash from the ground. None of the four needed scaffold.

Do you clean cladding panels as well as glass?

Yes. The panels on the Lovibond Lane hall were heavily soiled and were cleaned with purified water through soft brush heads in 2018 and 2019, leaving them free of water marks.

Can the internal windows be done on the same visit?

Yes. The Welland Street hall had high level external cleaning and internal window cleaning on the same programme in 2018 and 2019, and its carpets and lino were cleaned by the same firm.

When do you clean student halls?

In the summer changeover where the building allows it, or at the quieter points of the year agreed with the accommodation team. Residents are told before any visit that happens with people in.

Do you do small repairs while you are on the building?

Yes. A window sill outside one flat on Norman Road was repaired in December 2020. Anything larger is reported with photographs and quoted separately.

Do you carry out fire risk assessments for halls in Greenwich?

Yes. Halls of residence and blocks of flats are assessed to BS 9792:2025 by our IFSM registered Level 6 assessors, with the written report within 48 hours of the visit.
