Overview

SeeForth Services was engaged to carry out a full programme of render crack repair and masonry restoration across the exterior of a large period building. The scope covered multiple elevations at height, requiring industrial rope access to survey, prepare, and treat cracking, delamination, and structural movement across the façade — without the need for scaffolding.

Our rope access team conducted a thorough façade inspection prior to works commencing, mapping all areas of defect and categorising crack types by severity. Cracks were routed, cleaned, and filled with flexible repair mortar to accommodate ongoing building movement. Where delamination was identified, loose render was removed, the substrate treated, and stainless steel reinforcement mesh mechanically fixed before re-rendering. Cornice and parapet areas with advanced organic growth and structural separation were carefully cleared and reinstated.

The completed works significantly improved the weather resistance and structural integrity of the building's façade, removing active water ingress points and restoring the visual appearance of the exterior. The client received a full photographic report on completion.

Where scaffolding wasn't an option, rope access was.

The work

Our rope access team mobilised to site and carried out a full façade inspection, mapping every crack, delamination zone, and area of structural movement before works began. Each defect was categorised by type and severity to determine the correct repair methodology.

Cracks were chased out, cleaned, and filled with flexible repair mortar designed to accommodate ongoing building movement. Where render had delaminated from the substrate, sections were carefully removed, the background treated, and stainless steel reinforcement mesh mechanically fixed before new render was applied. At parapet and cornice level, extensive organic growth and debris were cleared from behind the render before reinstatement works were carried out.

All works were completed under full RAMS documentation, with daily safety briefings, photographic records at each stage, and close coordination with the building occupants to minimise disruption throughout.

The results

The completed works restored the structural integrity and weather resistance of the façade across all treated elevations. Active water ingress points were sealed, delaminated render replaced, and the parapet and cornice reinstated to a sound condition. The client received a full photographic report on completion, with advisory notes on areas to monitor under future planned maintenance visits.

By using rope access rather than scaffolding, the programme was completed faster and at significantly lower cost — with no disruption to the building's day-to-day use.
